Privacy Policy

Effective November 5, 2026

Biohackers@Berkeley is a student-run group acting independently of the University of California. This policy covers the club's website, mailing list, and events. It is not a University policy.

Who we are

Biohackers@Berkeley ("the club," "we," "us") is a student social club for people interested in longevity, biohacking, and health technology. Student officers run the club and handle any information described here. You can reach us by direct message on Instagram at @biohackersatberkeley.

What we collect

We collect only what we need to run the club:

  • Interest form: whatever you enter in our Google Form, such as your name, email, major, and interests.
  • Event RSVPs: name, email, and any details the event requires, such as dietary restrictions for a dinner or transit info for an SF trip.
  • Messages you send us: anything you include when you message us on Instagram or elsewhere.
  • Photos and video: we take photos at some events (see below).
  • Basic site data: our website host may log standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies. The embedded Google Calendar and our fonts load from Google, which may receive your IP address and browser details under Google's privacy policy.

We do not ask for, and you should not send us, medical records, test results, or other health information about yourself.

How we use it

  • Contact you about events, club updates, and ways to get involved.
  • Plan events, manage capacity, and handle logistics.
  • Understand who our members are in aggregate so we can plan better programming.
  • Respond to your messages.

What we don't do

We do not sell your information. We do not give sponsors, speakers, or partners our member list. If a sponsor wants to reach members, for example for recruiting, we will either share their message ourselves or ask you to opt in first.

Photos at events

We may photograph or film events and post the results on this site and our social channels. If you'd rather not appear, tell an officer at the event or message us afterward, and we will avoid featuring you or take the image down.

Services we use

We rely on third-party tools to run the club, including Google Forms, Google Calendar, Google Fonts, Instagram, and our website host. Your information is also subject to those services' own privacy policies. We only use them for the purposes listed above.

How long we keep it

We keep interest-form responses until you ask us to delete them or we no longer need them. We delete event RSVP details within a year of the event unless we need them for records such as attendance totals. Because officers change each year, we store club data in shared club accounts, not personal ones, and review access at each officer transition.

Your choices

  • If we contact you and you'd rather we didn't, tell us and we'll stop.
  • Ask us to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you by messaging @biohackersatberkeley on Instagram. We will respond within 30 days.
  • California residents may have additional rights under state law. Contact us and we will honor applicable requests.

Security

We limit access to club data to current officers and use the security features of the tools listed above. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't send us anything sensitive.

Children

This site and our events are intended for college students and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Relationship to UC Berkeley

The club acts independently of the University of California. The University does not collect, control, or receive the information described in this policy, and this policy does not describe how the University handles data.

Changes

We may update this policy. When we do, we'll change the effective date above and, for meaningful changes, tell the mailing list.
